F.A.Q.
In this section are answers to common questions about StormCell, our smart, high-performance stormwater detention system engineered for simplicity, strength, and space efficiency.
What is StormCell and how does it work?
StormCell is a modular stormwater detention system designed to temporarily store runoff underground. Its high void ratio (≈ 95 %) maximizes usable storage capacity while minimizing footprint.
Modules are stacked and locked together, then backfilled. When the storm event ends, excess water is slowly released or drained away.
What load capacities can StormCell support?
StormCell has been engineered for high load-bearing applications: it offers a safe working load of around 50 tonnes per m² (≈ 500 kN/m²) for trafficable surfaces.
It is designed for both vehicular and pedestrian use provided cover and backfill specifications are followed.
What are the module specifications and installation depth ranges?
- Dimensions of a module: ~ 1000 mm × 500 mm × 400 mm
- Weight: ~ 16 kg per module
- Void ratio: ~ 95 %
- Usable depth range: 0.6 m to 9 m (excavation depth 1 m to 9 m)
- Minimum backfill cover: 0.6 m
Is maintenance or inspection required?
Yes — StormCell systems include inspection / maintenance ports that allow for flushing or vacuum removal of sediment and debris.
If sediment ingress occurs (e.g. via upstream filtration failure), the system can be flushed via these ports.
What are the key advantages of using StormCell rather than traditional stone or concrete systems?
- Space efficiency — high void ratio allows more water storage per volume.
- Lightweight and modular — easier transport, stacking, and handling on site.
- Faster installation — minimal components and quick assembly reduce labour time.
- High load capacity — suitable even under trafficked surfaces when properly covered.
- Flexible design — works in different depths, adaptable to varied site constraints.
